About Sophie
Sophie Lavoie has been the curator for The Muse, Douglas Family Art Centre since its opening in 2019. She has curated many in-house exhibitions and guest curated for McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Sophie is a practicing artist whose work has been collected internationally. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Interdisciplinary) from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, in 2002.
Throughout her fifteen year career she has worked in many facets of the art industry: production, exhibition, education and sales. Sophie was the Gallery Manager of Loch Gallery, in Winnipeg from 2007 until her move to The Muse. She is very knowledgeable about the work of Walter J. Phillips and during her time with Loch Gallery worked with celebrated Canadian historical art and award winning contemporary artists. She has knowledge of museum and gallery practices, art methods and techniques; curatorial work, project management, event planning, research, digital media and photography. As someone who is passionate about the arts, Sophie is committed to creating engaging, culturally rich, dynamic experiences for Art Centre visitors. She enjoys engaging with the public, in both French and English, and is excited to share her passion for art, what it can mean to all of us and how it can be the greatest expression of what and who we are as people.
