Acknowledgment

We acknowledge that the land on which LOWAC offers programming and support to the arts community is set is the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, territory covered by Treaty #3, signed in 1873, and the Treaty Adhesion signed by the Métis in 1875.

Purpose

The purpose of the Lake of the Woods Arts Community is to foster and promote the spirit of creativity in the City of Kenora and surrounding area of Lake of the Woods; inspiring unity, joy and opportunity through the arts. LOWAC was incorporated as a not-for-profit in 2011. 

The objectives of the organization are to:

  • Provide a strong voice for the arts in the City of Kenora and the Lake of the Woods area;
  • Facilitate collaborative relationships among artists, the community at large, organizations, business, and municipal, provincial and federal governments in and around the Lake of the Woods area;
  • Contribute to the vibrancy of the arts and the quality of life in the City of Kenora and Lake of the Woods area.
  • Be open to other complementary purposes not inconsistent with these objectives.

We bring together artists of all disciplines including those involved with music, visual art, performing arts and writing.
