We are excited to share that LOWAC was once again successful in receiving KLWCF funding to provide a virtual platform for artists of all disciplines from within the region to offer workshops and presentations/performances online. Arts@Home will be provided virtually through ZOOM free of charge to participants but with an honorarium paid to support the presenting artists from a variety of arts disciplines—visual, vocal & musical, literary, theatre & dance, culinary, photography, multi-media and others. We are open to all ideas: presentations that can be in the form of an interactive workshop showing a specific technique or specialty, a live performance (music, drama, dance, vocal), etc., a culinary extravaganza; essentially artistry in any form. Be creative. This is your chance to show your amazing talents.

Member artists will receive $200 for individuals/$300 for groups (2 or more presenters). Non-member artists/groups will receive $175/$275 and a one-year LOWAC membership.

Deadline for submissions is Friday, September 3, 2021. The LOWAC Board will then choose amongst the proposals to ensure a fair representation of all disciplines and a variety of audience experiences. Tentatively, these are the dates – presentations and rehearsals usually run 7 to 9 p.m.

  1. Wed. Oct. 20 (rehearsal Monday Oct. 18)
  2. Wed. Nov. 17 (rehearsal Monday Nov. 15)
  3. Wed. Dec. 8 (rehearsal Monday Dec. 6)
  4. Wed. Jan. 12 (rehearsal Monday Jan. 10)
  5. Wed. Feb. 16 (rehearsal Monday Feb. 14 *could do Tuesday)
  6. Wed. Mar. 9 (rehearsal Monday Mar. 7)
  7. Wed. Apr. 6 (rehearsal Monday April 4)

If we receive additional funding, we may add more sessions.

ZOOM sessions will be promoted through social media, our website, eNewsletter, the Kenora Miner & News, 89.5 FM, and our partners in the community.

To be eligible, artists must:

  • Have access to a computer with video capability and a reliable Internet connection
  • A space from which to conduct their workshop/presentation that meets any ongoing social and physical distancing requirements
  • Provide their own materials for their activity
  • Be available for a rehearsal prior to their session
  • Be available at the agreed upon date and time for their session
  • Be open to communicating their activity within their networks
  • Be open to discussing having the session recording included on the LOWAC website and social media platforms with no further copyright restrictions

If any of the above requirements are an issue, please indicate in your proposal and we will see how we can help.

Proposals should include:

  • A description of what you wish to present
  • Theme of presentation (if applicable)/what is being conveyed
  • Some consideration for how viewers can participate in the activity (paint, draw, read, dance, sing, etc.)
  • Format of presentation – workshop, performance, presentation, etc.
  • Bio and contact information – email and telephone #
  • 1 to 2 samples of work related to the proposal
  • If possible, a LOWAC member reference
  • Preferred dates for presentation

Currently, the plan is to only offer the sessions online in English. Payment will be provided by cheque in Canadian funds upon completion of the session.

Email your submission no later than midnight Sept. 3, 2021 to lowacdirectors@gmail.com.

Questions can also be sent to that email or president@lowac.ca.
