The goal of this Call to Artists, is to promote area artists and to provide an opportunity for our community to be involved in the arts during the ongoing COVID 19 situation. We have received funding from the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Community Foundation to present Arts@Home!
LOWAC is looking for artists, primarily from Northwestern Ontario and surrounding areas and from all creative disciplines, to present online performances, workshops, presentations, lectures, interviews, etc. in your fields. LOWAC will provide technical/promotional assistance to presenters who would each do one or more one-hour programs* over the fall and winter of 2020/21. This will include access through our ZOOM platform, and registration details at lowac.ca. Arts@Home will be promoted through social media, our website, eNewsletter, the Kenora Miner & News and our partners in the community.
Member artists will receive $200 for each session. Non-member artists will receive $175 and a one-year LOWAC membership.
Deadline for proposals is Saturday, August 1, 2020. The LOWAC Arts@Home planning committee will then choose amongst the proposals to ensure a fair representation of all disciplines and a variety of audience experiences.
To be eligible, artists must:
- Have access to a device with video capability and a reliable Internet connection
- A space from which to conduct the workshop/presentation that meets social and physical distancing requirements
- Provide your own materials and if necessary, a list of materials the audience may require
- Adhere to current COVID 19 restrictions if including others in your program
- Be available for a rehearsal prior to the live session
- Be available at the agreed upon date and time for your live session
If any of the above requirements are an issue, please indicate in your proposal and we will see how we can help.
Proposals should include:
- A description of what you plan to do. We are open to all ideas! Maybe it is an interactive workshop, a musical , dance or theatrical presentation, voice lessons, a lecture on an arts-related topic, an interview/discussion about your work, etc. The possibilities are endless.
- Theme of presentation (if applicable)/what is being conveyed.
- Length of program. *Advise if you require more than one hour or one session.
- Some consideration for how viewers can participate in the activity (paint, draw, read, write, dance, sing, etc.)
- Format of presentation – workshop, performance, presentation, interview, etc.
- Preference for a live ZOOM meeting (where participants are visible, able to interact with presenter) or WEBINAR (view only/participants can submit questions through Chat). LOWAC will work with the presenter to determine the best approach.
- Bio and contact information.
- 1 to 2 samples of work related to the proposal – you can point us to your website or your artist profile on the lowac website. If the sample is large (as in video or audio) let us know and we can discuss options for viewing it.
- If possible, a LOWAC member reference.
Email your submission no later than midnight August 1, 2020 to lowacdirectors@gmail.com.
Questions can also be sent to that email or president@lowac.ca.
