Your membership renewal is due at the beginning of November and we are grateful for your continued support. It’s how we offer programming, scholarship and operate in the community with additional support from grants. Effective November 1, your membership fee for 2023 will be $30, a $5 increase over previous years.
We are currently working to update PayPal but if that isn’t done in time, we’ll circle back for the increase. Otherwise you can pay at the AGM or mail your $30 cheque payable to Lake of the Woods Arts Community to: PO Box 10002 Harbour Postal Outlet, Kenora ON P9N 4T1.

Welcome new directors
We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Aimee Baldwin and Everette Fournier as directors to the LOWAC Board by quorum at our September 2022 Board Meeting.
Aimee Baldwin (she/her) is a tactile artisan with a formal background in Fashion Arts. In December 2014, Aimee completed a four-month intensive Ceramic Arts course at Haliburton School of the Arts. In 2015 she opened Moon In June Studio, based in Kenora, Ontario. Her business offers unique, hand-made ceramics for daily functional use and decorative aesthetic enjoyment. Aimee also hosts workshops, private parties, and has developed partnerships with local organizations to offer ceramics opportunities to a wider audience. Transforming an idea into a physical ceramic object is a special type of alchemy and the process continually fuels Aimee’s creative inspiration.
Everette Fournier (they/them, he/him) is an emerging artist recently graduated from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) with a BFA, majoring in Textiles and Fashion. Everette views his practice as multidisciplinary, rooted in elements of performance, fashion and design. Everette is now immersed in a new art form – couture hat design (millinery) – in Toronto, Ontario where they are also continuing textile and fashion design for theatre. Everette’s connection to the region stems from being raised at a camp on the Winnipeg River near Kenora – a place they hold deep in their heart that always calls them home.
Both Aimee and Everette served as coordinators for ARTSFEST 2022 and are eager to continue to help LOWAC move forward with accessible, diverse arts programming.
Upcoming Grant Deadlines
Many of our local artists and LOWAC have been successful recipients of the Northern Arts Projects Grant, offered through the Ontario Arts Council (OAC). The deadline to apply is November 8, 2022, 1 p.m. ET.
OAC recognizes and values the distinctive nature of the arts produced in Ontario’s Northern regions. We believe that the arts are essential to the quality of life, cultural identity, social well-being and economic prosperity of Ontario. We recognize the specific challenges and costs to creating, presenting and accessing the arts in the North. Applicants who live and work in the North are encouraged to apply to any program in which their activities are eligible. In addition, OAC has a program that specifically meets the needs of northern artists. Eligibility includes:
- professional artists who reside in northern Ontario, for at least one year prior to submitting an application, and continue to live for at least eight months each year in northern Ontario
- not-for-profit organizations with a head office in northern Ontario; non-arts organizations must demonstrate appropriate arts expertise and directly involve arts professionals as paid artists or advisory committee members
Note that Alana Forslund, the Northern Arts Representative, is an incredible resource and we strongly urge you arrange to chat with her if you’re planning to apply. She can be reached at 807-700-6227 or Toll-free in Ontario: 1-800-387-0058. While LOWAC doesn’t have the capacity to help you write your application, we are happy to give it a review, answer any questions or provide references. Find out more at https://www.arts.on.ca/grants/northern-arts-projects.
