Prior to Dec. 2018, painting for Stephanie Chale, revolved around home renovations and gallon pails from the local paint store. Then a ‘Paint and Sip’ night with a group of girlfriends changed things forever. She was blown away by how swipes of paint could bring trees and mountains to life.
She didn’t paint again until her move to Kenora, October 2020. Armed with a ‘beginner paint set’ (a Xmas present from her son), a global pandemic, and YouTube, Stephanie learned to paint. With the help from Trish O’Sullivan (and other online artists), she learned how colour and value create light, depth and emotion.
Stephanie has spent the last 2 years working with acrylics (any style was fair game). During a recent trip to Australia she joined a group of Plein Air painters (check out Sunshine Coast Plein Air Painters and Sunshine Coast Urban Sketchers on Facebook). Acrylics and hot Aussie sun don’t play well so she switched to pen and inks. It’s been a steep learning curve but a fun challenge. Painting outside forced you to edit, focus and work quickly. It has also forced her to draw from observation (yikes)! So the adventure continues….
